Write a metaphor poem. Use at least 3 metaphors comparing something important to you and how you feel about it.

My example:

My Family

My family is a warm quilt

Keeping me warm all year

My family is a song

That comforts me when I need it

My family is my heart

They keep me alive

In the comments below, type the lyrics and describe the metaphor you found. Be sure to cite the artist.

You may respond more than once. One per reply so we can easily read through them.

My example:

‘Cause baby you’re a firework
Come on show ’em what your worth
Make ’em go “oh, oh, oh!”
As you shoot across the sky-y-y

by Katy Perry

The metaphor – The woman is a firework who can ignite and wow the people around her. She may feel like she is a “nothing,” or someone that nobody notices, but she’s got the ability to light the spark within her and show them how amazing she is.

Instructions:

You and your group/partner will decide what you would like to depict: the differences between….

Gender? girl/boy

Race? white/black, white/Hispanic or Latino, black/Hispanic or Latino

Remember our expectations brainstorm? (If not, click the link for ideas.)

We will have a Gallery Walk when they are finished.

Was it Plagiarism?

Part 1: Go to Newsela. Read the article and take the quiz.

Part 2: Respond in the comments below to these questions: (Number them so we can identify clearly which question you are answering.)

First, look up the definition for plagiarism. Then, research the alleged plagiarism online. Read Melania Trump’s lines compared to Michelle Obama’s. You may need to visit more than one site for the complete picture. Then answer the questions below.

  1. After evaluating the evidence, come to a conclusion about whether or not you believe Mrs. Trump plagiarized Mrs. Obama’s speech. Defend your position with evidence and refer to the definition of plagiarism.
  2. Regardless of whether you believe this specific incident was plagiarism, why is it important to respect the integrity of others’ work and ideas? What if we lived in a world in which plagiarism was not a “thing” – what if we could use anyone’s ideas of our own free will without giving any credit? What would that look like and how would that change the world?

DUE FRIDAY!! SO TURN IT IN ON THURSDAY EVENING! We will be having a class discussion after your quizzes.
