New Students Start Here!

Welcome to Mrs. Barnes’ English II or AVID class!

Important information to help you adjust to my class and Hesperia High follows:

1) Be sure to sign into your Infinite Campus account. This is where you can keep track of your class and assignment grades. Please check this regularly (for all classes). Besides here, you can find the link to Infinite Campus in the sidebar under HHS. Your log-in username is your school ID. Your password is your birthday in mm/dd/yyyy format.

2) The syllabus for your class can be found below: (Note – I reserve the right to make changes in grading category weights due to class performance.) You will also be receiving the English II Handbook for my class.

3) Students in both courses will be required to read one book per month. The necessary assignment information can be found on my Course Materials page. English and AVID students will both need the Goodreads assignment. AVID students will also need the AP novel list.

4) English and AVID students will read and mark articles throughout the year. You must read the Article of the Week assignment and the critical reading strategy – marking the text. Both are found on my Course Materials page.

5) My classes are utilizing Google Classroom for much of our work. See me for the class code to join. First you must log in to your school gmail account. Your gmail address is yourID@husdstudent.com. Your initial password is your ID. You will immediately be prompted to change your password. I HIGHLY recommend you use the same password as your personal gmail address. Therefore you won’t forget your password and miss out on assignments and announcements. It is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to remember your log-in information. Forgetting your password is NOT an acceptable excuse for not completing an assignment.

6) For class reminders and information I use Remind 101 and Twitter. Please see me for information on signing up for either or both.

7) I expect your first and last name and period number on all papers. If there is no name, or the information is illegible, please look under the Scorpion by the back window. Returned work can also be found there in the trays labeled by period number.

Thank you for getting settled into class. As a last word, please see me for ANY concerns you might have. I care about you and your success in my class. Don’t be shy! Please come see me with any questions or issues. I appreciate your involvement in your own education.
