Well, long time, no see. I blame myself. I got wrapped up in life. And end-of-the-year teaching stuff.
My goal is to get back in the groove and get to posting. Even if it’s quickie tips. I tweet those, but there is no reason I can’t post them too. I need to make it routine.
Anyway, with my district getting ready to go back (students return Aug. 11), I am preparing to give a PD session on grading with Google. Today I sat down to get my PD presentation ready and decided to play with Powtoon. I figured it would be fun to showcase one of the apps you can add to your Google account in Drive.
To add the Powtoon app, in the new Drive, you click New > More > + Connect more apps (In the old Drive, click Create > Connect more apps)
Powtoon offers a free account; I suggest you play with this first. I was irritated by the lack of an UNDO button. Apparently, it’s “coming soon,” but today that wasn’t good enough for me. I had to start my presentation over because I couldn’t get my mistake fixed. (Plus the font I was using completely disappeared in the drop-down menu as a choice!) Undo would have been THE TICKET!!!!
Then, when I finished my second go-round…and clicked SAVE…it gave me an error message and the SAVE circle kept on circling. I had to click it about four times to get it to finally save.
However, that being said, it’s a pretty cool tool. They just need to work out the bugs and put in THE UNDO BUTTON! (To be fair, my version says beta.)
Here’s a brief look at Powtoon:
To get started: Again, there’s a free account, or you can choose a business or education plan.
To create: You can start by using a template (like I did – Mission Impossible) or creating from scratch.
Then, basically, watch the tutorial video and start playing!
FYI – You can export it as a video or a slideshow.
